Who we are
Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK), the World Mangrove Centre arose out of the need to consolidate the various efforts to sustainably rehabilitate and manage mangrove forests around the world.
The initiative
Established by the Government of Germany under the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and the Government of Republic of Indonesia under the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK), the World Mangrove Centre arose out of the need to consolidate the various efforts to sustainably rehabilitate and manage mangrove forests around the world.

Our vision
The World Mangrove Centre (WMC) envisions a world with healthy and sustainably managed mangrove ecosystems that provide food, health, energy services to sustain livelihoods, as well as services to mitigate climate change (by reducing emissions through carbon storage) and adapt to its effects (through protection against sea level rise, storm surges, erosion and increasing natural disasters).
Our mission
The mission of the WMC is to become an international cooperation hub that promotes sustainable mangrove management by connecting, coordinating and fostering collaboration among different stakeholders at all levels and sectors, and across nations.
WMC will support Indonesia in its ambition to serve and share its experience in mangrove rehabilitation and conservation, and to collaborate with global stakeholders to save the world’s mangroves.
